Annette Strauss Square Opens Downtown
“We’re so proud of everything my mother did for the city of Dallas, and this is a wonderful tribute,” said Preston Hollow resident Janie McGarr, daughter of former Dallas mayor Annette Strauss.
McGarr, along with hundreds of other guests, gathered this afternoon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Annette Strauss Square, a new outdoor arts space downtown. Part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the square features an outdoor stage and lawn seating for up to 2,400 guests.
Strauss was feted by current Dallas mayor Tom Leppert, SMU president R. Gerald Turner, and her husband Ted Strauss. H. Ross Perot and T. Boone Pickens stuck out among the guests.
For more information, pick up the Oct. 8 issue of Preston Hollow People.

Want to Have Lunch With Bevo?

With Texas and OU hooking up at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, Bevo is making several appearances around town. But Brenda Sandoz, a Realtor with Allie Beth Allman & Associates, says the UT mascot’s annual stop at her house is his only truly public event. So feel free to swing by 2936 Stanford Ave. in University Park at noon tomorrow for lunch.

Enjoy The Eye Candy, Gentlemen

David Kozlowski/Dallas Photoworks
Supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Erin Heatherton stopped by the Victoria’s Secret in NorthPark Center on Tuesday to promote Bombshells, a “fruity, floral, and aromatic fragrance collection.” And it’s a good thing they were there; NorthPark doesn’t have nearly enough beautiful women.

Hanging Out With Moose
I just got back a little while ago from the opening ceremony and dedication of Episcopal School of Dallas’ Stephen B. Swann Wellness Center.
It was a beautiful ceremony and an incredible facility.
But the really cool part for me was getting to sit down for a few minutes afterward and talk to former Dallas Cowboys great Daryl “Moose” Johnston, who chaired the fundraising committee for the project. Johnston, who still looks like he could get out there and throw down a serious block or two, has two kids at ESD.

Spieth Helps Junior Ryder Cup Team Repeat
While his schoolmates attended class at Jesuit this week, senior Jordan Spieth spent his week in Scotland helping the United States win the Junior Ryder Cup.
Jordan’s got it pretty rough.
Anyway, Spieth helped the Americans to a 13 1/2-10 1/2 win over Europe. He won all three of his matches at the event in Gleneagles.

Watch Your Back While Eating Lunch
Something scary happened at a Preston-Royal Southwest restaurant last Friday. I just wish I could tell you which restaurant. Unfortunately, the police report doesn’t specify.
What the report does say is that three people jumped a patron, presumably in the middle of his lunch, and stole his iPhone. According to the report, a manager and a witness saw the trio looking around suspiciously before one signaled to the other two that the operation was on. The report indicates that the victim had three other people at his table, but none of them was able to prevent the crime.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the victim and his dining companions were caught completely by surprise. Wouldn’t you be at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at the corner of Preston and Royal?

Dallas International School
Dallas International School educates students of all backgrounds to contribute to a dynamic world with its internationally renowned curriculum, multiple language instruction, and exposure to diverse cultural views. We prepare our students to earn the French Baccalaureate Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, both of which assure admission into virtually any university in the world.DIS has more than 525 students in preschool through grade 12, with the high school being located on the University of Texas at Dallas campus. DIS’ primary objective is to provide an excellent education based on a French-American educational structure. Starting at the age of three academic subjects are taught in French and English enabling children to achieve fluency in both languages. Spanish instruction is the third language taught at all grade levels and Chinese becomes a language choice at the 6th grade level. At the 9th grade level students choose between continuing their education taught in the French language, which leads ultimately to the French Baccalaureate Diploma, or starting the English high school section, where classes are taught in English, leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma. At the 9th grade level, DIS is able to accept outside students into the International Baccalaureate high school section.
Our teachers are native speakers of their respective language. DIS accepts students regardless of race, religion, gender or nationality. Students receive a unique experience and understanding of cultural differences through the intermingling of the 25 different nationalities represented by the student population at DIS.
