All Hail This House on Halloween

The Farrier home is far out, to say the least.
In this week’s Real Estate section, we published photos of several Park Cities and Preston Hollow homes decorated to the nines for Halloween. But we missed one of the best in Preston Hollow. On Friday afternoon, a reader told me I needed to check out the home of Jon and Susan Farrier in the 6600 block of Stefani. If you haven’t decided where you’re trick-or-treating tonight, I’d recommend visiting this house. If they went to this much trouble for decorating, chances are they’ve got some pretty sweet treats to give out.

Kerr Shows His Claw, Part 3
Writing about a win must be more fun than chronicling a loss, because 13-year-old Jack Kerr had much more to say about the first World Series victory in Rangers history than he did about either Game 1 or Game 2.Rangers Still Alive
By JACK KERR
The air was electric in North Texas as the Rangers hosted their first World Series game. The Rangers came in knowing a win was desperately needed. They gave the ball to their postseason stud, Colby Lewis, who beat the Yankees in Games 2 and 6 of the American League Championship Series. Pitching for the Giants with a stingy earned run average was Jonathan Sanchez.

Kerr Shows His Claw, Part 2
I’m still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor in the wake of last night’s disastrous second game of the World Series. So reliving it this morning is kind of painful. But I promised 13-year-old Jack Kerr that we would post his reports on each game of the Fall Classic. Break it down, Jack.Rangers’ Late-Inning Disasters Continue
By JACK KERR
The Rangers came into Game 2 knowing a win wasn’t desperately needed, but one would definitely help their cause heading back to Arlington. The Rangers again ran into a wall, aka Matt Cain. Cain pitched majestically, throwing 7 and 2/3 scoreless innings. Some credit can be given to the Rangers’ lack of clutch hitting. The Rangers were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. Texas was shut out for only the sixth time this entire year.

What in The Hollow Are You Doing This Weekend?
There are more carnivals and shows this weekend than you can shake a Rangers bat at. So take a break from all the baseball hoopla, and check out these local events. Start your weekend off right by doing some good. The Shelton School is having a blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is not known whether the nurses will be dressed as vampires, but wouldn’t that be festive? After that, you can either take your pick of carnivals, (ESD and St. Alcuin are each hosting one at 3:30 p.m.), or head to the Hillcrest Homecoming parade at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, enjoy the musical stylings of Texas Voices, a 24-member chamber choir, performing at 6:30 p.m. at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. Although Hockaday has showings all weekend, I recommend catching the Sunday matinee of Oliver, 2 p.m.
Full Disclosure: The Rangers schedule may have played a small (large) part in my selections.

Parish Coach Pitches For Rangers
Make sure to pick up a copy of tomorrow’s Preston Hollow People so you can read my story about Parish Episcopal head baseball coach Dax Powell.
Powell, a left-hander, has been pitching batting practice for the Texas Rangers since 2003. After throwing countless pitches in batting practice, Powell will be sitting in the family section for all of the home World Series games.
And if the Rangers are able to bounce back from losing Game 1 to win the Series, he will also get a ring.

You Have Only a Few Hours Left to Vote
No, we’re not talking about the wet-dry propositions or Hartnett vs. Wellik. We’re talking about the “Food & Drink” ballot in People’s Choice 2010. By tomorrow morning, that ballot will have been replaced by the “People & Places” categories. So vote today by clicking the icon at the top of this page.

Kerr Shows His Claw, Part 1
This summer, a 13-year-old named Jack Kerr offered to write about the Rangers for Preston Hollow People. Now that the team is in the World Series, we plan to bring you this passionate fan’s take on each game. Here’s what Jack, a student at Saint Monica Catholic School, had to say after last night’s debacle:Though Rangers Slide, Fans Still in Love
By JACK KERR
The story of Wednesday wasn’t just how the Rangers ended the night; it was the atmosphere before the game. Everywhere you went this week, you either saw a “Claw” shirt or an American League Champions shirt. The feelings toward the Rangers have changed dramatically since I interviewed people at the corner of Preston and Royal. The Rangers took the hearts of many people after stunning the Rays, and then even better, sending the Yankees right back where they came from, and storming to their first ever World Series appearance.
