Why Doesn’t Anyone Call It Halloween Anymore?

Beats me. But the Parsons House Preston Hollow is hosting a Fall Festival tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Children are encouraged to wear costumes and events will include ghost darts, face painting, and something called “pumpkin toss.” Sounds risky. I’ve been assured by Parsons House that it’s simply a bean-bag toss into a large cardboard cut out of a pumpkin, but I remain skeptical. Dallas Firefighters will be in attendance, supposedly to take pictures with kids and show off the truck, but that seems like a secondary purpose…
WHEN: 6 – 7:30 pm.
WHERE: Parsons House Preston Hollow
4205 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas 75220
INFORMATION/RSVP: Jenifer Soria-Taylor 214-357-7900

Do You Like Us? Do You Really, Really, Like Us?
Until now, we’ve been left to our own devices in determining the popularity of certain posts. But with the recent (yesterday afternoon) addition of the “<3 Like This Post” feature for each musing, the guessing game will end. We didn’t add a “Dislike” button, but aren’t people always complaining about the media being overly negative? No longer. We want to know your (positive) opinion. Happy clicking!By Claire St. Amant Oct. 27, 2010 | 8:30 am | No Comments | Comments RSS -
Disney Store Opens at NorthPark

- You kids got your ears on?
Are you like me? Have you been walking through NorthPark Center this year and wondering when exactly the Disney Store would open outside Macy’s?
Wonder no more. The store opened this morning.
In other NorthPark news not related to crime, a clothing store called Silver Dagger has opened on the second floor between Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, and Express has relocated from the first-floor hall between Neiman Marcus and Dillard’s to the first-floor hall between Dillard’s and Macy’s.

Burglar Gets $100K Payday at NorthPark Center

Mining police reports can get pretty tedious. But every once in awhile, you find a gem. Much like the burglar who used a 5 pound sledgehammer to break into Ben Bridge Jeweler at NorthPark Center on Oct. 19. He walked away with seven Rolex watches totally more than $100,000. The most expensive arm candy was a $29,700 gold dust Rolex.
According to the report, the burglar hit the outside display window 15 to 20 times with the sledgehammer before gaining entry at 9:12 p.m. and setting off the alarm. He then reached in through the window and filled a sack with watches. Senior Corporal Kevin Janse with the Dallas Police Department said nothing was caught on camera as the video surveillance only records inside the store, and the burglar was standing in the mall walkway. The sledgehammer and a work glove were recovered in a bush between Barneys and the Nordstrom parking garage. Janse said detectives have met with security and the store’s business manger but have no leads.

Family Family Festival Was Full of Fun

Kate Mitchell practices her face-painting technique on Katie Bivins.
Despite the rain, the crew from Preston Hollow People had a ball at the Fall Family Festival on Saturday. We painted faces, gave away prizes, and asked kids to guess how much candy we had brought to Preston Royal Village. (The winner got the candy.) See this Friday’s paper for more photos of the festivities.

First Stop, Hillcrest. Next Stop, Bowser’s Castle

Hillcrest juniors Reggis Guthrey, dressed as Super Mario, and Coleman Waheed, dressed as Luigi, make their way to class on Monday morning as part of Cartoon Day.
Acing a math test, rescuing Princess Toadstool, it’s all in day’s work for the high school student turned cartoon character.
As part of Hillcrest High School’s Spirit Week, students are dressing up in themes. Pick up Friday’s edition of Preston Hollow People for more photos.
