St. Alcuin Celebrates Giving at The Highest Level

Hardly anything has a 100 percent success rate, but St. Alcuin Montessori School has managed to capture that elusive goal for the second year in row. Every single parent at the 18-month through eighth-grade, co-educational institution shelled out some cash for the Annual Fund, and that’s pretty impressive.
I’m not the only one who thought so, as the school hosted an event on Tuesday to thank its major donors at the Preston Hollow home of Joseph and Arang Cistulli. Head of School Walt Sorenson commended the long history of support from families and the community.
“Their generous contributions have helped us ensure the continued development of a superior faculty, enriched classroom capabilities, expanded athletic programs and beautiful new facilities for all our students to enjoy,” he said.

NorthPark Stores Play Musical Chairs
If you, like me, visited NorthPark this weekend for the first time since Christmas, then you, like me, missed a lot of activity. But there’s still plenty to come.
Let’s start with the closings: Eddie Bauer, Bachrach, the Nasher Sculpture Center, Lilly Pulitzer, and Abercrombie have all vacated the premises. (Don’t worry, kids; Abercrombie & Fitch remains.)
Then there are the impending moves: Eddier Bauer’s old space will soon be the new home of Puzzle Zoo. Puzzle Zoo’s neighbor Justice is taking over the Bachrach space. The Nasher Sculpture Center’s site will house BCBG Max Azria. And La Madeleine is moving a few doors down to where Lilly Pulitzer used to be.
Finally, look for these new additions soon: The mall’s second pretzel store, Wetzel’s Pretzels, will open between Brookstone and what was Eddie Bauer. And Margaret Palmer Jewelry will open this week between Bebe and H&M.

Akiba Academy of Dallas

I want a school where my child can ________ .
Akiba is that school. Whether your blank reads “get an extraordinary education,” “gain a deepened understanding of our Jewish heritage,” “develop moral character,” or simply “be loved,” Akiba answers the call for parents who seek a stellar Jewish educational experience for their child.
Grounded in a foundation that nourishes children with a balance of Torah, unparalleled education, and moral values, Akiba provides the best environment for open-minded Jewish families who want their children to become forward-thinking, engaged citizens of the world. Akiba was the first Jewish day school in Dallas and, as the only day school accredited by both NAEYC and the JECEI in the southwest, remains at the forefront of Jewish education today.
As part of Akiba’s education, knowledge of Jewish tradition and law are cornerstones. Akiba teaches ethical standards and a belief in the dignity of every human being. Of paramount importance is the teaching of Middot (values) inherent in Torah-based moral practice. The general studies program is just as impressive. Courses include language, science, mathematics, social studies, music, and the arts. Our campus provides students with access to innovative and cutting-edge technology, arts facilities, science labs and cultural programs. Sports and learning healthy competition are part of this balanced education as well. Akiba has a strong athletic program with championship teams in both volleyball and basketball.
We are now accepting applications for limited spaces in kindergarten through fifth grade. Please visit akibaacademy.org or call 214-295-3400.

Lamplighter Enjoys Saturday Snowfall

Second-grader Lindsey Nokolai took a sled ride on the playground at Lamplighter as part of a school fundraiser.
If this photo could describe your weekend, you were one of two places: Somewhere north of the Mason-Dixon Line, or on the campus of Lamplighter. The grounds were covered in 20,000 pounds of snow to raise money for the school’s upcoming Forever in Blue Jeans Auction. Go to the jump for more pictures of the winter wonderland. Read More…

‘Hottest Music Class For Tots’ to be Featured on GMT
Kidville at Preston Royal Village is officially opening Jan. 29, but they aren’t waiting around for the ribbon cutting to get down to business.
Monday at 9 a.m. performers from the signature music class “Little Maestros” will showcase their talents on Good Morning Texas. If you’ve been searching for a way to introduce your newborn to live music, look no further. “Little Maestros” has been called “the hottest music class for tots,” by the New York Post. And we all know how competitive that market is.
Owners and PH moms Amy Zicarelli and Charmaine Tang said that word-of-mouth referrals are already propelling class enrollments and birthday party bookings. The kid’s funhouse is sold out for its first weekend of parties and has ones on the books through July.
Check out the Jan. 28 edition of Preston Hollow People for a complete article on Kidville and its owners.
