And You Thought Cane Rosso Had Authentic Pizza…

Normally, if you wanted to eat a pizza made in an Italian oven, you’d need to hop on a plane first. Even the Best Pizza in Dallas is cooked in an apparatus built on this side of the pond. But soon (May, the owners hope), you will be able to sink your teeth into an authentically-made pie from Dough Pizzeria Napoletana.

The joint first opened in 2007 in San Antonio with an oven they shipped over from Naples, Italy. The second location will be at Preston and Forest, the former site of Chocolate Angel Too. Owners Doug and Lori Horn are still mum on what Dallas restauranteurs will be running operations, offering only the descriptor “restaurant people.” The pairs’ pizza comes with local and national acclaim and is scheduled to appear in an upcoming episode of Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (the spot was shot in February).

I’m sure they’re going to serve great pizza in their neighborhood. But I’ll stick to Jay Jerrier’s Il Cano Rosso on Commerce Street in Deep Ellum.

Il Cane Rosso does have Authentic Pizza.

What makes you think there can only be one in little ol Big D?

Dough will be a welcome addition to the pizza scene. If you’d like to know more, we discussed Dough and this new location with Dough founder Lori Horn three weeks ago, here: http://escapehatchdallas.com/?p=5599

Sorry, but I don’t have much of a soft spot for Jay’s comments about his first big fans, us Preston Hollow-area folk. Looking forward to something near home with great pizza and welcomes families big and small!

Great news. I liked having Jay in the neighborhood last summer and have gone to his restaurant once in Deep Ellum but it’s too far — this will be a great addition to the neighborhood. I look forward to their opening.

Does anyone have an update on when Dough will open in Preston Forest?

@David, I spoke with Lori Horn last week, and she still didn’t have a timetable for the opening. I’ll keep an eye open, though, and you do, too.

Cane Rosso’s oven at their restaurant in Deep Elum was made in Italy and shipped over to the US for the restaurant. Their pizza is also certified by Vera Pizza Neopalitana.

The pizza is great but the real story is the burrata. Been to Il Cane Rosso and while the pizza is comparable, I’ve never had anything like that there.

I’m taking my friend from Preston-Forest area to Dough in San Antonio this weekend. I love Dough’s in SA. I’m sure she’ll be a fan too and check out the one in Preston Forest Village when she gets back.
