St. Mark’s graduate Sam Acho was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals this morning. The defensive end from the University of Texas was the sixth pick of the NFL Draft’s fourth round, or the 103rd pick overall.

Bill Lively Resigns Post at DSO

If you’ve been sweating out the rising cost of higher education, your child could end your worries with a skillful game of chess. George Bannerman Dealey Montessori and International school is hosting a scholarship chess tournament Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
For $10, kindergarten through twelfth grade students currently attending a Dallas ISD school or charter school are eligible to compete by age group. The top player in fifth through sixth grade age group will receive a full four-year University of Texas at Dallas scholarship. What in The Hollow Are You Doing This Weekend?
Now that all the Easter hullabaloo has passed, you’ll have to find a reason to get your kids outside without the lure of hidden candy. Hillcrest High School can help.The Lady Panthers softball team is hosting Adamson High School at 5 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs. Admission is free to this high stakes, single-elimnation game.
If you don’t like the feeling of getting something for nothing, then pop on over to the Parson’s House before the game and donate your blood. That’ll even things out in the cosmos, right? The senior assisted living center at 4205 West Northwest Highway will accept donations from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
On Saturday, get in your Spring shopping and philanthropy with a trip to the Mi Escuelita bazaar and luncheon at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. Tickets to the luncheon are $35 and will benefit the school’s summer enrichment program, Passport to Mexico. The fun runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Round out your weekend with a bit of theater. Upper school students from Hockaday will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 7:30 p.m.

Ursuline Grad Perishes in Alabama Tornado

Korean Young Nak is No More
The future site of the Preston Royal Library has been cleared of its former occupant, the Korean Young Nak Church. The plot at Forest Lane and Nuestra Drive is now a finely manicured lot of dirt. But don’t get too excited, there’s still no time frame for when the relocation will take place.
Councilwoman Ann Margolin said the 2006 bond package used to purchase and clear the land for the library did not include funds to build a house for books. Margolin estimates it will take 3 to 5 years to get the rest of the funding secured through a future bond. In the meantime, she added, an architect will design the new library.
