I wanted St. John Vianney and the Houston Diocese to address the abuse. I would have been upset if my efforts for justice with the priest to have crushed the parish that I loved…the parish that help mold me into a healthy adult.

Maybe Jane Doe’s family would have an ESD sign in their front yard too. Because they might have loved the ESD school, later wanting their behavior in the case to be in line with the values they had come to expect from the school.

Same comparison with Fr. Swann. I don’t know him but have heard wonderful things about him when he performed the marriage ceremony of a friend of mine recently in Wyoming. In comparison, I never wanted to say that the bishop was a bad person, just that he handled my case badly. I wanted change. Friends of mine who loved the bishop felt I was attacking the bishop when I was only asking that he handle my attack as I thought Jesus would.

I later spent time as a federal whistle blower trying to gain justice for children who were abused by an arm of the Catholic church around Boys Town in Omaha. Despite 50 children coming forward, the judicial system decided to look the other way.

I was probably more vested and ingrained than Jane Doe because I worked at the church for years and my foundation was present there in that midst. When they denied me justice, I wasn’t just shocked, my world crumbled.

As a much older adult, I decided to seek justice for the abuse in the child abuse ring written about in a book recently by Nick Bryant. I was a federal whistle blower and testified before many federal agencies. Again, I wasn’t just a citizen here, I have worked for the Federal Govt in Law Enforcement for almost 25 years, I was vested in the belief that my country was just. I had to learn the hard lesson again, that while most of our federal govt is just, many are not. This time it was not the church that failed me but the judicial system and the executive branch.

Life is full of gardens filled with both flowers and weeds, bees and flies. Our entire world is this garden. You would be wrong if you think your little part of the world is weedless or fly less.

I am not wordsmiths like most of you, but I hope that my comments can be included with yours.

Actually, the ONE & ONLY student who needed Father Swann’s support didn’t get it. He turned his back on her & her family, just like he will do to the students who did a great job on their “Father Swann art project” if they ever become a “distraction” to ESD.

Good riddance!!
