Wesley Robotics Students Keep Their Chins Up

Wesley Prep 6th graders Reagan Withrow, Noah Cousino, and Will Ingarfield fiddle with their LEGO robot during class.
Despite not placing at the FIRST Lego League Regional Championship Saturday, Wesley Prep students have plenty to be proud of.
A letter from their teacher, Mimi Brody, to the parents of the students:
Our kids did great and should feel very accomplished and proud. They are a first-year team and were competing against 14 year old students who have been doing this together for years. We had a great discussion yesterday morning to reminisce about the highs and lows! We all agreed that the experience was well worth all the work, and they are proud of themselves!
They had some wonderful thoughts of perseverance under pressure and working toward a goal as a team as well as expressing so many feelings of admiration for each other! Although we had the points in the classroom, we just could not make it happen.
As one of our darlings said, “We have seen our bot achieve the missions before, but for whatever the reason, this was just not our day. Any other day, it might have been, but this was not our day.” Valuable lesson…some days, you just can’t make it work.

Shawn Marion Cancels Postponed House Party
When I read in Alan Peppard’s Morning News column that the party Shawn Marion was supposed to throw tonight had been postponed, I was elated. A scheduling conflict was going to prevent me from calling on the Matrix’s Preston Hollow home for a reception welcoming Lamar Odom & Khloe Kardashian, Delonte West, and Vince Carter to Dallas. But if the shindig was rescheduled, perhaps I’d be able to squeeze it into my social calendar. Alas, publicist Andrea Alcorn assures me that the affair shan’t be happening at all. Pity.

Dave and Buster’s Plans New Flagship
Today the Dallas City Council approved a zoning change that will allow Dave and Buster’s to open a new flagship location at the corner of North Central Expressway and Walnut Hill Lane. The building, formerly the AMC Glen Lakes, is only about a mile away from an existing location, so it is expected that the Dallas-based company will simply move the old location to the more favorable spot.
“This is a very exciting project because it will be the new showcase facility for Dave and Buster’s,” said council member Ann Margolin when announcing the public hearing. After the council approved the measure, Mayor Michael Rawlings said he thought it was a great idea.
Dave and Buster’s public relations department has not been available for comment, but we expect it to be a very long time until the doors open for the new building.

Secret Service Keeps Bush Info on Lockdown

A man detained outside of former President George W. Bush’ s Preston Hollow home was released last night after being questioned by the U.S. Secret Service.
Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan spoke with People Newspapers and confirmed the man did have a gun in his car but was not arrested thus could not release information detailing the incident.
Many news outlets reported the man was mentally deranged and was “spiritually told to pick up a package at the Bush home,” but Donovan said he could not confirm that information since there was no official arrest report made.
When asked how the man got past the gate, what kind of gun he had and if the man was completely delusional, Donovan said he could not release any further details.

Hopefully, NorthPark-Area Gun Play Has Ended
There’s nothing at DallasPolice.net that explicitly links all of these reported incidents near the corner of Park Lane and Central Expressway, but it doesn’t take one long to connect the dots.
18 WEDNESDAY
At 2 p.m., the rear driver’s side window of a silver 2012 Dodge sedan inexplicably shattered as the car traveled in the 7800 block of Park Lane.
At 6 p.m., two pellet guns were found in a department store at NorthPark Center.
Between 10 and 11 p.m., a gunman fired a shot into the window of an unoccupied office in the 9200 block of North Central Expressway. The bullet went through an interior wall and into a hallway, causing $3,000 worth of damage.
21 SATURDAY
At 8 p.m., police were alerted that a young man was seen carrying a gun at NorthPark Center. Officers found a suspect matching the witness’s description in the food court and discovered that he was carrying a BB gun. The young man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct and released to the custody of his 27-year-old mother.
