Hired Gun Will Travel

Full disclosure: I have a radar gun. A real one. Right now, in my possession until Tuesday, and rented at a reader’s suggestion for our Oak Cliff paper (supposedly, people are driving more than 70 mph in the 20-30 mph zone near Methodist Dallas Medical Center).

So. As long as we’ve got the ‘dar gun — and the brand name, no joke, is “Stalker Sport” — should we try it out in Preston Hollow on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning? If so, where? And what time?

Shoot it anytime between 7:45 am and 8 am any weekday or during afternoon school pick up time in the 58 and 5900 block of Waggoner Drive between Preston and the Tollway. All the parents running late in dropping off and picking up their kids from Pershing Elementary use Waggoner instead of Meadows due to Meadows’ speed bumps. It is like a raceway and despite us and our neighbors calling the Dallas PD each year for the past 3 years, no radar unit has ever need deployed by the traffic division. One note, if you see a couple of black suburbans with darkened windows coming fast, don’t point the radar gun at those cars. The secret service guys won’t find that amusing. Happy hunting!

I am working on a stop sign petition for Willow Lane to slow traffic. With the construction on LBJ and the Cooper Aerobics Center our little residential street has become a highway! Please help this Preston Hollow neighborhood . . . and again I will be a fabulous hostess!

    Hi all,

I’ll start with an update/confession: Half the time I had the gun (which has since been returned to the facility from whence it came) it didn’t seem to be working — a discovery I made after writing the post above. Granted, it worked long enough to yield a story for our Oak Cliff paper, and (after I got help from the rental company and a friendly police officer) another for our Park Cities pub.

I’m so sorry this one fell by the wayside. It was nothing more than a timing issue :)

@Law abiding citizen: the gun came from the Mody Company, a miscellaneous operation out of New York run by a very nice guy named Tom Mody. Baseball teams apparently use him on a regular basis for fast-pitch stuff.
