Prom?
I’m not asking anyone to prom. But that’s a good idea, and I’ll keep it in mind for my own “prom-posal” senior year.
With Hockaday Prom, Marksman Ball, and numerous other school proms around the corner, I thought I’d help guide everyone through the grueling, labor-intensive process of getting a prom date.
If you asked most of us Hockadaisies, a perfect prom date would have the athleticism of a Jesuit Ranger, the intelligence and artistic skills of a Cistercian Hawk, and the classiness and debonair of a Marksman, without the sexism or cockiness. (Check out section B if you have a minute.) Not to mention, the social skills of any boy that goes to a co-ed school. We forget that often boys from St. Mark’s don’t know what a girl is (again, section B of the ReMarker) and we are upset when they don’t compliment our hair. But those are just generalizations. Many St. Mark’s boys are kind, many Jesuit guys don’t do sports, and plenty of Cistercian guys don’t go to ISAS. We really just like the idea of boys.
If you want to ask someone, you have to be cute. A “prom?” text doesn’t cut it. We have a long line of adorable prom-posals, including a boyfriend pasting a large picture of himself on the cafeteria wall. A few nights ago, a friend of mine was asked by her boyfriend who spelled out “PROM?” in candles outside her room in the boarding department. It goes without saying that 85 girls watched her get asked to prom.
But you don’t have to have a date to go to Hockaprom. Many girls go stag with a huge group of girls, a last hurrah with the friends that supported them through their Hockaday experience.
