W.T. White Alumna Plays Rule in London Olympics

I’ve been watching the Olympics nonstop. Yesterday’s diving events? Holy cow I was entranced. But we have another reason to watch the Olympics, now that a W.T. White alumna is involved.

Shannon Gillespy, a graduate of the DISD school in 1979, was recently named the general manager and assistant coach of the United States Olympic Open Water Swim Team. She is currently in Quebec helping with some last minute cold-water training, and will arrive in London tomorrow where her team will compete in the women’s 10-kilometer on Aug. 9, and the men’s 10-kilometer Aug. 10.

“I remember telling my husband and he was so excited. He kept saying, ‘You’re going to the Olympics.’ Now that it’s here, I’m the one jumping up and down in my living room. I mean, it’s the Olympics,” Gillespy told the Denton Record-Chronicle last week.
