Ben Fountain Nominated For National Book Award

Preston Hollow resident Ben Fountain, perhaps best known for his short-story collection Brief Encounters With Che Guevara, was nominated for the National Book Award this morning for his 2012 novel Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

Spoiler alert: this book is incredible. Read it now. But before you do, read D Magazine‘s story about Fountain, which ran in April.

Fountain’s up against a murderer’s row of novelists for the award: Junot Diaz, Dave Eggers, Louise Erdrich, and Kevin Powers. The winner is announced Nov. 14.
