Hillcrest Senior Wins Sizable Scholarship

Remember our note about two Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship finalists being from Preston Hollow? Well, one of them just won the big prize.

Congratulations to Hillcrest senior Elizabeth Crowling, who’ll get $30,000 in tuition assistance from the Davey O’Brien Foundation. ESD senior Anna Hansell and the other contenders have also done quite well, obviously, and they’ll each be awarded a $2,500 scholarship.

When I profiled the Preston Hollow girls for last Friday’s paper, Crowling told me she hopes to become a marine-mammal veterinarian. The athlete, scholar, and animal-shelter volunteer certainly likes medicine — she interned at UT Southwestern and still does research for the hospital – but her heart is with animals, and her hefty scholarship will offset undergrad tuition as she prepares for vet school.

More power to her.
