What were you up to as a 20 year old? That’s how old SMU student Kira Plastinina is, and she’s at the helm of global fashion brand LUBLU Kira Plastinina.

I sat down with the quiet fashion designer recently to get the scoop on her store’s upcoming opening and to learn more about the brains behind the brand.

Between sips of green tea at Hotel Lumen, Plastinina shared details about how she juggles homework and running a business.

Before leaving, Plastinina told me the biggest difference she sees between Russian and American fashion is Russians’ tendency to dress up more for everyday tasks. I quickly understood what she meant. When it was time to say our good byes, Plastinina walked away from the table donning a tailored coat, skirt, and chic shoes, and I was left sitting there in my baggy sweater and boots.
