Senior Sarah Rostamo’s three goals led Parish Episcopal to its fourth consecutive TAPPS Division II state championship on March 8. The Panthers beat host Awty International School 4-2 behind Rostamo’s third-consecutive three-goal game.

Parish Episcopal (16-3-2) came back from a 1-0 deficit in the first minute as Rostamo tied the game four minutes later. Rostamo and her sister Katie are four-year Panthers players. Katie, who was hampered by a leg injury during the playoffs, has signed with Kansas. Sarah gave Parish a two-goal lead with 10 minutes left with her ninth goal in three games.

“We graduated 12 seniors off last year’s team, and people were thinking, ‘What are we going to do?’” Parish coach Craig Savage said. “We had another great group of seniors who took our freshmen and really taught them how to play.”

Parish (16-3-2) also got a goal from freshman Lily Sultan in the 24th minute for a 3-2 halftime lead over Awty (24-6-2).

Meanwhile, the middle-school boys team from Good Shepherd Episcopal School beat McKinney Christian Academy for a second straight championship. The Cougars’ 2-1 victory in front of a huge crowd at Prince of Peace Lutheran on Feb. 13 capped an undefeated season. Good Shepherd beat Parish Episcopal 6-0 in the semifinals one day earlier.

Coaches Ralph Mestre and Adam Stadler said they boys represented Good Shepherd’s values of dedication, teamwork, sportsmanship, and Christian principles both on and off the field.
