I’m not sure where this is in Dallas, but it’s the most EPIC ad I’ve ever seen. Via Craigslist:

Having an EPIC party that will literally make the attendees feel like they are in a scene from a movie! I need Human Statues to make this party really come to life…

Both Male and Female must be 18 and older (DUH) Some of you will wear Classic Greek robes some will be dressed like the mythological gods some will be nude

Pays 100.00 per hour (4 hours)

Nude Pays 200.00 per hour ( 4 hours)

Send a recent photo and YOU MUST BE IN SHAPE…NO old folks and no ugly people please…

I’m not an old folk, and I don’t think I’m ugly. See you suckers $800 later.

  • Kent Rathbun, Fashion Model

    Photo: Tim Rogers

To the left you’ll see chef and Devonshire resident Kent Rathbun, being rather un-cheffy.

That’s the cover of the Chefwear catalog, which, for some reason, comes to the home of D editor Tim Rogers. In addition to his sartorial stylings, let’s all just take a minute and think “Hey, Rathbun must be doing pretty well if he can afford that ride.”

Stop by his Knox-Henderson haunt Abacus and Plaza at Preston Center restaurant Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen to razz him, if you so desire.

  • Teens Respond to NorthPark Curfew

In a stroke of genius/”Duh, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that” moment, Anna at the Observer checked Twitter to see how the kids were reacting to NorthPark’s new curfew. In a word: poorly.

  • NYT’s Mark Bittman Heads to Temple Emanu-el Tonight

From my friend Liz Johnstone, over on FrontBurner:

This is fascinating to me. How is this free Mark Bittman lecture not yet all booked up?

Happily for you, you can still reserve a seat. Bittman, making the Dallas rounds (he’s on KERA with Krys Boyd earlier in the day if you want to tune in), will be at Temple Emanu-El chatting about his latest book, Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating. His regular Times column is concerned with sustainable eating, food policy, and other issues associated with a poor American diet (i.e. tons of meat, tons of sugar, and tons of worthless carbs). If you’re skeptical, making simple changes to his diet allowed Bittman to lose 35 pounds, and solved several other health problems. After the lecture, don’t miss the reception and book signing.

    Kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

  • Parish Episcopal Students Present Homelessness Project to City Council

    Pardon the angle.

Bright and early this morning, during the Dallas City Council’s open microphone session, students from Parish Episcopal School presented a homelessness art project to councilmembers.
The project is part of 29 Pieces, a Dallas-based arts non-profit organization focused on the creation of monumental change through monumental art. The group includes students from Parish, Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, and Maya Angelou High School. The students presented large murals and posters to the council, answering the question, “If you were a great peacemaker like Ghandi, Mother Teresa, or Martin Luther King, what would you do about homelessness?”
If you happen to be downtown, the project will be on display in the first floor of the downtown branch of the Dallas Public Library later today.

  • A Rudimentary Look at What Your Dallas Mavericks Have Been up to Since Being Swept

Last week, the reigning champs fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was a foregone conclusion to many (what with the lackluster, lethargic play all season), but still hurt for many to watch. As a Knicks fan, it seemed like a normal, maybe even above-average season.

That said, the Mavs are now on their time. Here’s what two of them have done so far this off-season:

Jason Terry spent his Monday afternoon at West Village, and posed for a picture with the property manager. Source: Twitter

Delonte West spent his Friday night with Verne Troyer, Mini-Me from the Austin Powers movies. He wins. Source: Twitter

  • Chocolatier May be Coming to Lovers Lane

I’m sitting at the City Planning Commission right now, diligently trying to stay awake as I wait for the items I’m covering to pop up.

A fun Bluffview item just passed, though, and I thought I’d share. A rather innocuous replat in the 4100 block of Lovers Lane — combining two lots east of Roper Street — will become a chocolatier, according to the project’s attorney.

To which I say: that will probably be a pretty big chocolate shop if it needs to take up two lots.

  • W.T. White Alum at Center of Secret Service Scandal

It’s safe to say David Chaney probably won’t be at his 30 year reunion this year.

The 1982 W.T. White alum is currently wrapped up in the Secret Service prostitution scandal. By “wrapped up” I mean he probably hired some prostitutes in Colombia, while waiting for President Obama to arrive.

Putting that DISD education to good work.

  • Dallas Passes Permanent Watering Restrictions

Those accustomed to watering their sidewalks while they’re at work will have to change their routines.

This morning, the Dallas City Council approved permanently limiting sprinkler use, either by hose sprinkler or by automatic system, to two days per week. The resolution passed 13-2; Preston Hollow councilwoman Ann Margolin was one of the two nays.

Folks using olde tyme water cans are allowed to water whenever they please.

(I will now put on my opinion hat.)

I get that the Council wants to conserve water. It makes sense. But by driving through North Dallas or the Park Cities, I recognize that these restrictions are violated every day, with little to no repercussions. Code enforcement in Dallas is underfunded, and this will only further tax the system.

It, most likely, is a resolution without teeth.

  • Bush, Hicks Team up to Tackle Global Health

Like Glenn brings up in his FrontBurner post, former President George W. Bush is the backyard neighbor to Tom Hicks, owner of the largest house in Dallas. So when Hicks had a fundraiser for Global Health Corps. at his house yesterday, I like to think of W hopping a fence into his buddy’s place. That image soothes me.

Anywho, GHC is a nonprofit outfit promoting “health equity,” co-founded by George’s daughter, Barbara Pierce Bush. For more about the event, and some fancy party pics, check out Glenn’s post.
