Swoozie’s Is Coming Back?!?
Hmm, while Swoozie’s in Preston Center announced it was closing all of its stores this spring, it now seems its Dallas store will reopen late this summer in the same spot. It’s one of seven Swoozie’s locations that will reopen, and it will be the only one in Texas. We’re still waiting on word from the popular gift store as to why it’s bringing back these particular seven. But whatever the reason, we’ll be happy to have it with us again!

Hillcrest’s Adam Brian Smith Named Teacher Of The Year
Adam Brian Smith, director of bands at Hillcrest High School, was named DISD 2010 – 2011 Teacher of the Year. Smith has served at Hillcrest since 2006, and is also the head coach of the girls softball team.
Under Smith’s direction, the band program has grown from 19 to 150 student members. Smith, a single parent of three children, said that giving students an exciting, quality music education is his vehicle of enticement for students to stay in school. He said he believes that the arts can help students become tenacious, team-oriented problem solvers who are confident and able to think creatively.
Smith’s students perform yearly at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, National “Say No to Drugs” Red Ribbon Campaign, and Capital One Bank Adolphus Children’s Parade. He also performs with the Park Cities Baptist Church orchestra, the Metropolitan Winds organization, volunteers for the Women’s community crisis center holiday food drive, and for other community groups and events.
For his service, Smith was given an engraved award and $5,000 by Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa and Stephen Butt, senior vice president of the Central Market Division of H-E-B. Congrats teach!

This Is The Final Week To Shop Swoozie’s!
While Swoozie’s in the Plaza at Preston Center has lost its bankruptcy battle, there is still a few days left to take advantage of its 60 to 80 percent off EVERYTHING sale. If you’d like to get a jump on future gift giving, this is the place to go. I’m talking 50 percent off adorably printed wrapping and tissue papers, $4 cocktail glasses, 70 percent of stationary, holiday decorations, frames, jewelry, handbags, and the list goes on. If you spend more than $25 in the store, you’ll get an additional discount off your purchase. Feast Your Eyes On Occhiali
Finding the right eyewear for your face is tough, especially if you have a round one like me. That’s why places like Occhiali Modern Optics in Preston Center are fabulous. The chic eyeglass hub has a slew of designer shades from Michael Kors, Gucci, Armani, Alain Mikli, Chrome Hearts, and IC! Berlin, to name a few. And from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow, they’ll host designer eyewear and jewelry trunk show for French eyeglass line Face a Face (left) and local jewelry line Delight Van Dame. Did I mention there will be lots of champagne? So if you’re in the market for some seriously fierce specs, look no further!

Chico’s Meets Charity At NorthPark Tomorrow

There are few things I enjoy more than retail therapy, especially when it helps raise money for charity. If you shop Chico’s at NorthPark between 2 and 7 p.m. tomorrow, 10 percent of your purchase will go to Metrocare, an organization that provides health care for children and adults with mental illness or special needs. All you have to do is visit the organization’s website, print out the coupon under the “Events” tab, and present it at the Chico’s counter tomorrow.By Silver Hogue Apr. 19, 2010 | 11:25 am | No Comments | Comments RSS -
