Lamplighter Now a Landowner

As of yesterday, Lamplighter is no longer a Hockaday tenant. The outlandish $1-per-year lease that ran through 2027 was cut short when the school decided to purchase the land out-right.
Communications director Melisa Dorrill said acquiring the land from Hockaday has been a 10-year process, with the main negotiations occurring during the past year. The details have been kept hush-hush by both parties as per terms of the agreement.
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Lamplighter celebrated with a dirt cupcake party for all of the school’s pre-kindergarten through fourth grade classes. Trustee David Miller was on hand for the festivities and expressed his support.
“Now we’ll have this land forever,” Miller said.

Until 7 p.m. tonight, all donations of $25 or more to North Texas charities participating in the Donor Bridge “Get up and Give” campaign will be matched by the Communities Foundation of Texas. There are plenty of Preston Hollow groups participating, including Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and the Dallas Jewish Historical Society, part of the JCC. The website is experiencing some difficulties under the weight of all the charitable traffic, but be patient. After all, it’s a virtue as worthy as giving to the needy.

The meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium will cover what the rating means, how Hillcrest got it, and what can be done to ensure these conversations are few and far between.
If you’re going, look out for your friendly newspaper reporter. I’ll likely be the only 25-year-old in attendance.

Help Hillcrest HS Win Half a Million Dollars
Twenty schools will be on the receiving end of $10 million through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program, and if Hillcrest plays its cards right, it could be one of them.
In celebration of 10 years in business, Kohl’s is donating $500,000 to the 20 schools with the highest votes on Facebook. The contest runs through Sept. 3. If you have a Facebook account, use this link to vote for HHS.
Once on the approved list of schools, the only remaining requirement is to have at least one idea posted on how the cash would be spent. The leading school, Silverstein Hebrew Academy in New York, has the ingenious idea to “help the children.” And they have 99,288 votes.
The leading candidates for project proposals at Hillcrest are:
