Gluten-Free Bakery Opens in Preston Center
Established gluten-free baker Tully Philips, of Devonshire, just opened Tu-Lu’s Gluten Free Bakery Wednesday in Preston Center. It’ll be the subject of a story in next week’s paper — and honestly, the goods look pretty delicious.
Anyone had a chance to visit yet?

Kids Eat Free Here
OK, the headline is a bit of a tease, but if it caught your eye then listen up. We’re developing a reader’s guide to the best restaurants in town that offer free kids’ meals. Ideally, we’ll have a place or two listed each day of the week.
As I lack the requisite children to know this information on my own, I’m calling for back up. Where do you take your munchkins to beat the munchies on the cheap? Comments are on.

Food Truck Fridays Come to Shops at Park Lane
Those of us who have transitioned (some say evolved) from brick and mortar restaurants to the high-speed life of food trucks will say there’s nothing better than stepping up to a truck and grabbing a Korean taco or Vietnamese banh mi. The rest of you will presumably say you like “having a seat while you eat” and “not standing in the rain.”
To that I say “Humbug!”, but there’s an opportunity to change your mind. The Shops at Park Lane will host Food Truck Fridays every Friday this month, featuring a variety of trucks every week, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The trucks include: 3 Men and a Taco, Gennarino’s, Green House, Jack’s Chowhound, Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe, Ssahm BBQ, and Trailercakes. Visit The Shops at Park Lane’s Facebook page to check the weekly schedule.

What’s Your Thanksgiving Tradition?
Sure, we’ll all likely have turkey on the table tomorrow. But beyond the favored bird, what’s your favorite holiday habit? Running in the Turkey Trot? Going shopping? Watching the Cowboys in a tryptophan coma?
Comments are open.

Thai Time

While some may drive far to satisfy their Thai food fix, my favorite Thai spot, Best Thai, is hidden in the Hollow. Why are so many Preston Hollow residents missing these yummy Pad Thai moments? Maybe it is because the store is completely hidden in between the Barnes & Noble, Dallas Summer Musicals, and the U.S. Post Office at Preston Royal Village. Until a few weeks ago, Best Thai was merely a small room with a few mismatched chairs and tables. Despite the lack of publicity and atmosphere, the food at Best Thai was superb. Thankfully, the restaurant has recently transformed into a cozy and neighborhood eatery with a modern and chic design. For more pictures of the renovation, click here.

New La Madeleine to Give Out Free Stuff
The last time I was at NorthPark (two Thursdays ago, as I killed time before my HPHS cafeteria shift) was the first time I’d been there since they closed up La Madeleine. Not seeing the longtime fixture (and its hallway seating area) next to the Dillard’s fountain was a bit disconcerting. Then I chuckled when I saw that the sign on the new La Madeleine location a few doors down still said “opening spring 2011.”
Well, spring has arrived. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and a “baguette salute” led by president Phil Costner and founder Patrick Esquerre are scheduled for 2 p.m. today. But the fun starts earlier than that — the first 50 patrons this morning will get a free jar of tomato basil soup and a $10 gift card. Go!

Cantina Laredo Loves Rangers Fans
I love the Texas Rangers. And I love Mexican food. So, of course, I love the fact that Cantina Laredo in Preston Royal Village is offering discounts to Rangers fans on game days. If you wear Rangers gear and spend at least $30, your bill will be discounted by 10 bucks. World Series games are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. In necessary, games will also be played Monday, Oct. 26, and Oct. 27.

Purple Cow Wants to Make Me Fat(ter)
This is supposed to be the last warm day for a while. Seems like a good time for a milkshake. I see on the Preston Royal Village website that the Purple Cow has special shake flavors tied to Halloween and the State Fair. Dare I try both?
