Irish musician Anthony Kearns will perform a concert this St. Patrick’s Day benefiting Jesuit students traveling to Irland.  As a founding member of The Irish Tenors, Kearns’ performance will not be worth missing, since he has been considered on the the finest tenor’s of our time.

“Anthony Kearns, Ireland’s foremost tenor, is a great ambassador for Ireland,” said Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Collins in a press release.

The concert will be at the Majestic Theatre March 17, and tickets are available here.

ESD hosted a talent show last night for those involved in the diversity club DADYO, which consists of students from the big seven schools: ESD, Jesuit, Ursuline, St. Mark’s, Hockaday, Parish Episcopal, and Greenhill.

Sharon Bales, ESD’s DADYO coordinator, said the talent show will become an annual event since all the schools participated and the students had a wonderful all inclusive spirit.

Teachers from each school judged the competition, and the winner, Daniel Park of ESD, won for his acoustic guitar solo of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Second and third place included students from Greenhill and St. Marks that showcased their musical talents with guitars, bongos, tambourines and vocals.

Not much changed for Hillcrest, Jesuit, Thomas Jefferson, and W.T. White with the release of the University Interscholastic League’s biennial realignment and reclassification of districts on Thursday morning.

In fact, those schools will have only one new team each in their districts for the next two school years. Jesuit and W.T. White will remain in the current District 9-5A with Skyline, Sunset, Richardson, Berkner, and Lake Highlands. The district will lose Samuell and pick up Pearce, which should make things a whole lot easier for Richardson ISD athletic officials. Pearce moved up from Class 4A.

Meanwhile, Samuell moves over to the current District 12-4A to make it an eight-team league. The Spartans will join Hillcrest, Thomas Jefferson, Bryan Adams, Conrad, Lincoln, Spruce, and Woodrow Wilson.

Jesuit junior wide receiver Jake Oliver was named to the first team of the 61st Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A All-State Team.

Southlake Carroll’s Sabian Holmes was the other first-team receiver. Spring Dekaney running back Trey Williams was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Carroll’s Will Davis was the Defensive Player of the Year.

Oliver finished the season with 108 catches for 1,637 yards and 23 touchdowns. The Rangers went 8-3 (6-1) under first-year head coach Brandon Hickman last season.

Jesuit quarterback Brian Buell had a pretty amazing night last Friday against Richardson.

Buell, who took over the starting job after Jack Brezette was knocked out for the season on Sept. 9, broke the state record for touchdown passes in a game with eight. He finished 23-of-32 for 427 yards in a 62-30 win.

But his record didn’t make it through the night, as Fort Worth Southwest quarterback Wesley Harris was busy throwing nine touchdowns in his team’s 66-21 win over Fort Worth Arlington Heights. What are the odds?

Anyway, Buell was named the Class 5A Built Ford Tough Class 5A Player of the Week for his performance.

The Jesuit football team decided to sport its camouflage pants for last Friday’s game against Coppell. The game was played two days before the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“We got them for Veterans Day, as well,” Jesuit head coach Brandon Hickman said of his team’s pants. “We decided this would be a great weekend to break them out with 9/11.”

It was a tough night for the Rangers, though. Jesuit not only lost to Coppell, 35-28, in a game that came down to the wire, but the Rangers also lost starting quarterback Jack Brezette after he suffered a broken leg on the final play of the game.

Brian Buell will start at quarterback for the Rangers when they open District 9-5A play against W.T. White one week from Friday.

One year after scoring Clint Black to play, Jesuit has landed Randy Travis for homecoming Oct. 29.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., but attendees must be at least 18 years old, and not currently enrolled at Jesuit. Tickets are $40 until Oct. 26, and $60 at the door.

I’m still tying to figure all this country music stuff out (the closest I came before moving to Texas was watching Walk the Line), but this seems like a pretty big deal. More information on Jesuit’s website.

Comedy person Wyatt Cenac, a Daily Show correspondent and Jesuit graduate, was profiled on NPR’s Morning Edition this morning. I caught only the tail end of the piece, but I liked what I heard.
