  • Dough Pizzeria Napoletana is Worth a Visit

“Open until the fresh mozzarella is out” is written on the doors of Dough Pizzeria, a new pizza parlor in Preston Forrest Square, and boy is the mozzarella fresh.

Today, I went by for a media lunch and tried a bit of everything. Now that they’ve been open for about three months, they have almost perfected their menu, and created some really delicious dishes.

From their burrata caprese salad to their Preston Hollow pizza, I left wanting to come back for more, very soon. My favorite, the Pork Love pizza, quenched my carnivorous appetite, and left me stuffed. Made with their home made mozzarella, salami, sausage, and pancetta, I could not help but grab a second, (actually third) slice of it.

For a full write up on Dough Pizzeria, check out my story in the June 1 edition of Preston Hollow People. But in the mean time, check out Dough for yourself in the 11900 block of Preston Road.

  • SMU’s Viral Video Includes Hockaday Grad

By now, you’ve probably seen the SMU women’s crew team lip-synching to “Call Me Maybe.” The viral video has been covered by media outlets ranging from The Huffington Post to the Today show. I’ve just been informed that one of the rowers, Hockaday graduate Emily McCombs, is the daughter of Preston Hollow residents Susan and David McCombs.

  • Opportunity to be George and Laura Bush’s Neighbor

Imagine coming out of this house and seeing former President George W. Bush getting the paper in his bathrobe. It could be you. Photo Credit: candysblog.com

In from what I’m told is a rare opportunity, a home has become available in the close-knit neighborhood of former President George W. Bush. I found this post on candysdirt.com and, from what I read, the house seems to be an updated take on a traditional one level home:

“Every surface has been modernized, great baths, knock-out kitchen, open floor plan, three living areas ripe for entertainment. The 4392 square foot home is full of natural light with four bedrooms, three and a half baths. The setting is serene and loaded with mature trees, rich lawn, outdoor kitchen with fireplace and a sparkling back-yard swimming pool and with cabana.”

    Candy Evans

I don’t know how much it’s running for, but chances are, the neighborhood will attract a certain level of homeowners — probably a strict background check as well.

House and party affiliation aside, who wouldn’t want to have a beer and a burger with your former President neighbor? Plus, having secret service roaming the streets at night makes me feel safe even here at my desk.

When I was on Dittmar Place yesterday, I had a little adventure. Across the cul-de-sac from the wildflowers sign, there was an unmarked asphalt path, leading into some wilderness.

  • Hollywood Composer Moves to The Neighborhood

In tomorrows edition of Preston Hollow People, I profile Lisa Cohen, a talented composer who just moved to the neighborhood, straight from L.A. She’s working on a musical she hopes to launch here in Dallas, is opening up her home for private piano lessons, and has a few other projects on the side.

To inquire about lessons, check out her website. I play trumpet, but she was able to teach me a thing or two on the piano in no time.  Check out her full story, on stands tomorrow!

  • Malouf Mansion is Untouchable in Bankruptcy

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how Dr. Richard Malouf’s contractors paid a visit to the city’s Board of Adjustment to add a second electrical meter to his 30,000-square-foot Strait Lane estate, and private water park.

Last week, Malouf’s business All Smiles Dental Center (well, now he’s a minority share holder after selling most of it in 2010) filed for bankruptcy. WFFA reports that in the Chapter 11 filings, the dental center lists $50 to $100 million in liabilities, and $1 to $10 million in assets.

The business was known for putting braces on people using Medicaid, and within the past several months, they have shrunk from 10 Dallas locations, to only a handful. Michael Lozich, spokesman for All Smiles, said they plan to cut the orthodontics portion of their practice within the next 90 days, and hope to emerge out of bankruptcy later this year.

Since the bankruptcy is strictly business, the Malouf Manion will go untouched, and construction is pressing on. I’m hoping he puts one of these in his backyard and invites me over.
