Chic Ursuline Grad Dies at 84

Ursuline alumna Elizabeth Hope Evans Verhalen, class of 1948, died at 84 years old of cancer at her Houston home on Feb. 14.

Born and raised in Dallas, the Ursuline grad attended SMU, and started her designing career shortly after graduating.

According to her family, in 1963, Verhalen designed the first U.S. swimwear line manufactured outside California. Her designs were featured in several national publications, including Seventeen, Mademoiselle, and Glamour.
