SMU Announces 2018 Tate Lecture Series

Better get your tickets fast, because the SMU Tate Lecture Series is quickly selling out.

SMU’s 37th season of the Tate Lecture Series will feature Oscar-winning SMU alumna, three Pulitzer Prize-winners, and a noted TED lecturer.

The Tate Series will provide a platform for leaders from wide-ranging fields to share their unique perspectives with area residents and students.

Tickets to the September, October, and November events are already sold out. As are tickets to the May 7 event featuring Kathy Bates.

All lectures take place at 8 p.m. in McFarlin Auditorium:

Sept. 25, 2018 (Sold Out) – Senior statesmen and former White House Chiefs of Staff James A. Baker, III, and Leon Panetta, joined by returning moderator David Gergen, former presidential advisor, CNN senior political commentator, and director of the Harvard University Center for Public Leadership.

Oct. 16, 2018 (Sold Out) – Jon Meacham, presidential historian, author of the best-selling George H.W. Bush biography “Destiny and Power” and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for “American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House.”

Nov. 6, 2018 (Sold Out) – Thomas Friedman, Pulitzer Prize-winning foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times and author of six best-selling books, including “Thank You For Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving In the Age of Accelerations.”

Dec. 4, 2018 – Siddhartha Mukherjee, a cancer physician, researcher and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer.”

Feb. 5, 2019 – Bill Browder, founder of Hermitage Capital Management and author of “Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder and One Man’s Fight for Justice.”

Feb. 26, 2019 – Lisa Randall, theoretical physicist and researcher, best-selling author of “Warped Passages, Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs and Knocking on Heaven’s Door.”

April 2, 2019 – Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist, noted TED lecturer and best-selling author of “Presence: Bringing Your Boldest Self to Your Biggest Challenges.”

May 7, 2019 (Sold Out) – Kathy Bates, actor, Academy Award winner (Misery), Screen Actors Guild Award winner (Primary Colors), Emmy Award winner (Two and a Half Men, American Horror Story) and Tony Award nominee (’night Mother), alumna of SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts.
