What in The Hollow Are You Doing This Weekend?

It looks like this weekend is all about the kids. Here’s a couple of options for some family fun.

In the words of the JCC, it’s time to “get your schmear on.” This year’s annual Bagel Run happens on Sunday morning, and is a fun way to get the whole family moving. The fun starts at 7:45 a.m. with an “exclusive Harlem Shake warm-up followed by the “kids k” and then the 5- and 10k runs. The carb-loading begins immediately after the runs end, with a bagel buffet and awards presentation.

At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, bring your kids to Bookmarks in NorthPark Center, where native-Argentinian Miss Lilia will lead a special Spanish story time. At 2 p.m. in Bookmarks, Debbie Day will take present “Jubilee Jamboree,” where she takes kids on a trip down memory lane to the 1950′s, and then back to the future.

Train This Weekend for Komen 3-Day

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk won’t come to Dallas until early November, but event organizers suggest participants begin training for the 60-mile trek well in advance — as in, now.

At 7 a.m. Saturday, New Balance on Northwest Parkway will host an hour-long training walk followed by a “Get Trained Workshop” to discuss proper shoes, clothes, and preparation for the big event (with product pitches worked into the mix, one figures). A seasoned 3-Day walker will also take questions from the crowd.

Thornton Nominated For National Award

Northwestern lacrosse player Taylor Thornton, a Hockaday alumnae, has been nominated for Sports Illustrated‘s Female College Athlete of the Year.

Thornton will try to wrap up her stellar college career by helping the Wildcats win their third straight and eighth overall national title. After opening the NCAA Tournament with a 15-8 win over Stanford on Sunday, Northwestern will host Penn State in the second round at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Burglar Steals 525 Baseball Caps, 27 Pairs of Nikes

At around 3 p.m. on May 6, an employee of Neiman Marcus at NorthPark Center watched while a woman selected a $395 skirt and hid it inside a garment bag containing clothes she had just picked up for her employer. After exiting the store, the shoplifter was arrested on a theft charge.

At around 1 p.m. on May 7, a thief entered an office in the 12700 block of Hillcrest Road and stole a $400 iPhone 4.

Between 1:30 and 3 p.m. on May 8, a burglar broke into two vehicles parked next to each other at a restaurant in the 7800 block of Park Lane. The burglar stole a $50 bag containing a $5 journal from a white 2004 Toyota sedan and a $50 backpack from a gray 2011 Hyundai SUV.

Between 3 and 5:30 a.m. on May 9, a burglar broke into a condominium in the 12800 block of Midway Road and stole 525 baseball caps with a combined value of more than $18,000, 27 pairs of Nike tennis shoes with a combined value of more than $5,000, a $2,800 55-inch Panasonic Viera TV, a $2,000 17-inch Macbook Pro, an $899 Insignia 60-inch TV, and a $600 Gucci men’s watch.

At 3 p.m. on May 10, a pair of shoplifters entered Forestwood Antique Mall and hid a $450 vase in a purse. When a manager confronted the pair, they dropped the purse and fled, causing the vase to shatter.

Water Demand Meeting to be Held at Bachman Rec Center

The city needs your help and input about the future of our water supplies. So, two public meetings will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. One will be at the Bachman Recreation Center, and the other will be at the Tommie M Allen Recreation Center. A time for public comment will follow a presentation.

“The choices and decisions we make now will shape our future water supply, so this is an opportunity for the public to be a part of planning our city’s future,” director of water utilities Jody Puckett said in a statement.
