Hockaday is on a roll with lacrosse and tennis team victories at the Southwest Preparatory Conference spring tournaments last weekend.

The varsity tennis team won its second straight SPC title by defeating Greenhill at home. This is the sixth straight year that Hockaday has made it to the championships, and its fourth victory in that span.

In the finals, the doubles team of Anna Dyer and Erin Blotcky won in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), as did the doubles team of Caroline Bhupathi and Karla Herb (6-2, 6-1). In singles, a hard push in the third set by Berkley Wood helped ensure the team’s 3-2 victory. Maura McCrary (6-1, 5-7, 3-6) and Melody Tong (5-7, 6-4, 4-6) lost their singles matches to Greenhill.

The lacrosse team defeated Houston’s St. John’s, 9-8, to earn their SPC title at ESD. Last-minute goals by PJ Van den Branden, Emily Stallings, and Alice Chamber helped seal the win. Emily Wechsler posted three goals in the first half.

The girls won’t have much time to rest and recover, as they’re headed to compete in the Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League playoffs in Houston this weekend.
