After battling through adversity just to make the playoffs, Jesuit saw its postseason run cut short on Friday.

The defending Class 6A state champions fell to Sachse in a shootout in a Region II bi-district game in Garland. The Mustangs outscored the Rangers 4-3 in penalty kicks after a scoreless draw in regulation and overtime.

Jesuit (6-6-9) wraps up a difficult season that included a nine-game winless streak in the middle of District 9-6A play, plus the loss of top scorer Christian Lerma to a serious medical condition in mid-February.

However, the Rangers battled back to close the regular season with three consecutive wins to clinch a playoff spot, and tested District 10-6A champion Sachse with a resilient effort that fell just short.

Jesuit was ousted in the bi-district round for the first time since 2015, when the Rangers were eliminated by Mesquite, also in penalty kicks to break a scoreless draw.
