UP Warns of Troubled Waters

When it rains in University Park, it usually pours, and then it floods. The entire area is under a flash-flood watch until 9 p.m. tonight, so the ever-buoyant UP spokesman Steve Mace would like to remind residents about the dangers that lurk after serious rain storms.

“We closed more than a dozen intersections,” Mace said. While barricades are clear for afternoon carpools, if more rain comes, expect more closures.

Fortunately, no major accidents have been reported, Mace said. “We did receive a 911 call about a downed power line,” he said, but that turned out to be something else.

Find out more about staying safe during flash flood watches here. There’s also a map of intersections to watch out for during heavy rains.
