Re: Mystery of the Missing Letter

* SEE UPDATES 1 and 2 BELOW

When I hadn’t heard back from Mayor Dick Davis by Friday at 11:00, I decided to see if Steve Mace with the City of University Park could answer my questions about the mysterious fax/e-mail. He nudged Davis and I was finally able to speak with him late Friday.

Merritt: Mayor, you’ve seen the screenshot of a letter that a commenter linked to on our website claiming that it had been faxed and e-mailed to me. I never received it and I’m wondering if you can forward the e-mail and also send me a copy of the fax confirmation.

Mayor Dick Davis: I’ve been trying to get a hold of the campaign consultant for 2-3 days but haven’t heard back yet, maybe he’s on vacation. He’s the one who would have that.

Merritt: Who is the campaign consultant?

Mayor Dick Davis: John Weekley.

Merritt: I heard that Tina Peyton also worked on the campaign.

Mayor Dick Davis: Tina worked with John but I don’t know how closely. I didn’t do any of the hiring for that.

Merritt: Who prepared the letter?

Mayor Dick Davis: John Weekley.

Merritt: Was he also the one in charge of faxing and e-mailing the letter?

Mayor Dick Davis: Yes.

Merritt: Who would have had access to a screenshot of the letter?

Mayor Dick Davis: I don’t know. John Weekley would have but I don’t know who else.

*UPDATE 1: A few minutes ago, I received an e-mail from someone in Dick Davis’ office. I’ve never spoken to her before but here is what she sent.

Merritt,

Here is the note we discussed.
But what she attached was the Word file of the screenshot we’ve had for a week. No fax confirmation report, no copy of an e-mail. Seriously.
*UPDATE PART 2:
So I responded to her e-mail by asking for the fax confirmation and the e-mail.
Rhonda’s reply:
I don’t have that information. Dick has it but I will pass your request on to him. Have a wonderful day.

Hmmm. You know when your on a bus and the bus hits a speed bump or something like it? It kind of jostles you around and you get thrown in the air a little. I just got that feeling after reading that convo. I believe we should look for Mr. Weekly under the bus as opposed to his favorite vacation haunt.

Hmmmmmmmmmm….lifelong Parkies (and probably Lifelong Parkie) sure don’t know how to keep track of important documents. I guess they never thought that there would be opposing opinions in our little burg.

It’s interesting that N.F. hasn’t chimed in, and John Weekly is on vacation.

Looks like the mayor didn’t take into account that someone might really challenge his accountability. He is a good man but in this case he is really passing the buck.
