Christie Crummel’s Words to Belle Families

This e-mail went to Belle families yesterday. Seems that Crummel is going to set an example for her girls and keep it classy to the very end.

Subject: Thank You
April 7, 2011

Dear Belles and Belle Families,

Thank you so much for your love and support.  The emails, phone messages, and text messages have been overwhelming, and I thank you for taking the time to express your support for me.  I know that Mr. Kelly met with many of you this past Tuesday and promised to follow up with me soon.  He and I met briefly yesterday morning after practice.

I first want to say that resigning was a tough decision on my part, and it was my decision to resign.  Many of you have asked that my resignation be rescinded or that I be asked back.  Legally speaking, I have submitted my resignation effective end of year.  There’s no further action to be taken.  Such a resignation is unilateral—it is effective when submitted.

Many want an explanation as to why I chose to resign.  It is no secret that this past year was tough for all of us.  I have invested all of my time and energy into this organization over the years, and the last thing I want is for there to be divisiveness affecting the program adversely.  I believe that it is in the best interest of the Belles, the organization, the school, and the community for me to move on with my career at this time.  I am very proud of the Belles, and I leave many fond memories behind.  I look forward to continuing the many wonderful relationships I have enjoyed in my time at Highland Park.  Please know that I’m ok and the Belles will be ok.

It is my greatest hope and prayer that we move forward together in a positive, united force.  We need to finish out the year taking care of usual Belle business and finding a suitable replacement for me.  It is my greatest wish that we do that together with integrity and grace.

With respect, love, and prayers,

Christie Crummel

Highland Park can be a wonderful place to live. There are outstanding, respectful, accomplished and well prepared students with character who graduate every year. However, this situation is a perfect example of why the choice of raising a family here presents a double edged sword. The elite attitude and sense of entitlement, if only by a few, is poison. There are many versions circulating about what really happened. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle, but the consensus seems to be that no version warrants the extreme action taken by parents and the clear lack of respect for authority and “all about me” attitude exhibited from the young women involved. Hope they are prepared to step out and face the world and fresh competition who have not been raised with a silver spoon in their mouth…….without mamma and daddy.

She remains a positive role model not only to the girls, but to the parents and administration. She will not easily be replaced.

There are many who should be ashamed of themselves. Christie Crummel is a class act and has handled herself beautifully.

Ms. Crummel continues to serve as a role model for both young adults and middle aged parents. She will be greatly missed.

There are many of us who agree with the above comments. Sadly, we don’t have the influence at HP administration that the favored few continues to have. Another loss of a classy, ethical role model within HPISD.

I witnessed all of the Belles performances at the recent Grapevine competition. The girls (first), Ms. Crummel and the parents all deserve cudos for a squad that, for its large size, performed not only in exact perfection, but also entertained in their delivery.

Ms. Crummel will be successful in whatever she choses to do next. As will every Belle.

Did any one of you attend the school board meeting this evening? I did and I’m pretty sure you did not. Maybe 15 people, besides the board was in attendance. Where was the support? It can’t just be through blogging. I encourage you to attend every single school board meeting in the future or watch your bubble burst – for real. No one shows up which looks like no one cares. Then administration gets all loosey-goosey with what they try to get away with. Go to the meetings and speak up!!
