DISD Wants Your Thoughts on Trustee Districts

Most of Preston Hollow People’s readership lives in DISD’s District 2, which completely surrounds the Highland Park school district and stretches as far east as White Rock Lake. The rest of you live in District 1, which sprawls as far north as the corner of Trinity Mills Road and Marsh Lane.

If you think these maps need to be redrawn, you’re in luck. DISD’s Board of Trustees wants to hear from you. Between tonight and Aug. 4, the board is hosting a series of public hearings. Jump for the details.

DALLAS – The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees is considering new boundaries for its trustee districts and is seeking the community’s input during public hearings scheduled throughout the city.

According to the 2010 Census data, Dallas ISD’s trustee districts are out of balance and must be redrawn in order to comply with the “one-person, one vote” requirement of the U. S. Constitution.

Interested persons may submit their comments at any of the following public hearings:

  • Monday, July 25, 6 p.m.:

– Bryan Adams High School, 2101 Millmar

– Francisco F. “Pancho” Medrano Middle School, 9815 Brockbank Dr.

  • Tuesday, July 26, 6 p.m.:

–           Justin F. Kimball High School, 3606 S. Westmoreland Road

–          Hector P. Garcia Middle School, 700 E. Eighth St.

–          C. F. Carr Elementary School, 1952 Bayside St.

  • Monday, Aug. 1, 6 p.m.:

–          Everette L. DeGolyer Elementary School, 3453 Flair Dr.

–          Tommie M. Allen Recreation Center, 7071 Bonnie View Road

  • Thursday, Aug. 4, 6 p.m.:

–          Dallas ISD’s Board room in the Administration Bldg., 3700 Ross Ave.

The preliminary plans for the trustee districts will be available at the hearings and are available for public inspection during normal business hours at Dallas ISD’s Administration Bldg., Monday through Friday from now until the conclusion of the public hearings.  Preliminary plans and other information concerning making comments about the school district’s redistricting process are also available on the school district’s Web site at www.dallasisd.org/redistricting/.
