Community League Endorsees Remain in Power

Highland Park’s new mayor will be Community League-endorsed Joel Williams, while University Park will welcome Community League-endorsed Dawn Moore to the council.

Williams defeated Sam Tamborello by a more than 10-1 advantage, and Moore defeated fellow first-time candidate Raquel Ibarra 440-117. The University Park City Council election unfolded like this:

Bob Begert (incumbent)  453

Bob Clark (I)  431

Raquel Ibarra 117

Dawn Moore 440

Tommy Stewart (I)  444

In Highland Park, Williams secured nearly 500 votes, while Tamborello received 42, according to city spokesman Lance Koppa.

How much money would we save if we eliminated elections entirely? Seriously, just let the Community League pick them, save us all money.

No one, least of all the Community Leagues, makes people vote for their candidates or show up to vote at all. The solution is to get involved, put up credible candidates and not let these people run unopposed year after year.

I would like to express my grateful thanks to each voter who voted for me. I appreciated your encouragement, warm words of support, and your time yesterday.

    My sincerest and grateful thanks.

Neal – we had some decent candidates for UP city council two years ago but unfortunately most citizens do not bother to vote.. there are something like 16,000 registered voters and in the “hotly” contested election of two years ago less than 2,000 people voted – which was record turnout.

When is the last time a candidate NOT endorsed by the community league won an election around here?
