Thornton Leads Northwestern to Title

Former Hockaday standout Taylor Thornton scored the game-winning goal in Sunday’s women’s lacrosse NCAA championship game to give Northwestern its seventh title in eight years.

The Wildcats (21-2) beat Syracuse, 8-6, giving Thornton her second NCAA title. The junior defenseman/midfielder, who finished with 33 goals and 58 ground balls this season, is a finalist for the Tewaarton Award, which is annually given to the player of the year.

Former Highland Park standout Haydyn Anigian is a freshman player for Northwestern.
