Good Shepherd Student Joins U-17 National Team

Madison Haley doesn't limit herself to playing against other girls.

Madison Haley, an eighth-grader at Good Shepherd Episcopal School, was one of 20 players named to the under-17 women’s national soccer team last week. She and her teammates will be in San Jose, Costa Rica, from April 21 to 29, for a tournament also featuring the host nation, Mexico, and Japan.

“I was in shock when I first heard the news,” Madison said, “because it’s always been one of my dreams to represent my country in an actual U.S.A. game, and now I have that opportunity, which is really exciting!”

Her soccer coach at Good Shepherd, Ralph Mestre, said Madison is an outstanding player who possesses an intense will to win.

“Her abilities allow her to rise above any challenge she meets on the soccer field and brings out the best in her as a competitor,” he said. “It’s not surprising that Madison has won three TAPS championships during her time here at Good Shepherd.”
