Two high-profile philanthropists with Preston Hollow ties teamed up on Monday when the Hamon Charitable Foundation announced a $2 million donation toward construction of the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas.

The donation comes in the middle of a fundraising campaign that aims to secure $38.6 million to begin the first phase of construction by Oct. 8, which would assure a $500,000 challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation. That would take another $2.7 million in the next few weeks.

Pickens himself donated the first $18.4 million for the project, and the Hamon Foundation has contributed another $3.5 million.

Officials said the Pickens Center, which is part of Faith Presbyterian Hospice and will be operated by Presbyterian Communities and Services, will serve about 1,800 patients per year and will be the first standalone hospice center in the city. It is scheduled to open in 2015.
