The search for Highland Park’s new police chief would up right back where it started.

Rick Pyle was appointed as the town’s new director of public safety on Monday after serving as interim chief since the death of Chris Vinson on June 1. He will begin his new position immediately, and will be sworn in during a ceremony on July 13.

Pyle is a 28-year veteran of the Highland Park Department of Public Safety, having been promoted through the ranks to become assistant chief in 2008. He also serves as the town’s fire marshal.

Vinson died following complications from heart surgery at age 53 after being the police chief for seven years.

“Chief Vinson was a leader and was well respected by town staff and the community. His loss still weighs heavy on our hearts,” said HP town administrator Bill Lindley, who recommended Pyle’s appointment to the town council. “Vinson’s leadership extended to his command staff and DPS personnel, and Rick Pyle was the clear choice to continue Chief Vinson’s strong commitment and dedication to public safety.”

Chief Pyle..It would seem to me that some of your officers over the weekend should not have resorted to questionable “retaliation” conduct. Further, If your officers want to investigate a matter, then do so professionally and not demand monies from a resident when they clearly dispute an issue at hand. It seems to me that there was a violation of Due Process rights. Further, evidence is not something that is “secret” by your officers, yet should be readily disclosed to all parties when asked to disclose.

Good thing for audio and video.

I believe you and your department are out of line, and I hope someone investigates this matter outside of this crony run town and fires the officers involved.

    I am deeply disappointed.
