One year after winning a TAPPS state title, Parish Episcopal doesn’t appear to have lost a step in its quest to repeat.

In fact, the Panthers might be gaining steam as they start district play tonight with a blue-turf home game against Coram Deo.

After all, Parish (3-0) already has avenged its only loss from last year when it easily dispatched Glen Rose 41-14 last weekend. The fast-paced Panthers have scored at least 41 points in all three of their games after rolling up historic point totals in 2014.

A primary reason for Parish’s continued success is likely that some key playmakers remain in place, such as junior tailback Dominic Williams, who verbally committed to Kansas earlier this month. Williams already has rushed for 575 yards and nine touchdowns through three games, and also has returned a kick for a score.

Receivers Xavier Suggs (302 yards, one touchdown), Justin Morris (215 yards, two touchdowns), and Ty Bennett (125 yards, four touchdowns) have given new quarterback Jeremy Hodge plenty of options. And Hodge has shown some dual-threat effectiveness by completing 65 percent of his passes and throwing just one interception.

Under longtime head coach Scott Nady, Parish swept through the seven-team district last season, against a fairly formidable group including Pantego Christian, Fort Worth Southwest Christian, Arlington Grace Prep, Grapevine Faith, and Fort Worth Christian.

In fact, the Panthers have won 14 straight games overall, and haven’t lost a district game since early October 2013.
