It Is Easy Being Green

Who said “It isn’t easy being green?” Well, no offense to the popular Muppet, but the DFW Solar Tour Oct. 3rd would beg to disagree. And one local school is a stop you won’t want to miss.

The da Vinci School is one of the go-to stops for a driving experience you must try: a Tesla Model S. The car is a part of the electric vehicles, so hurry and sign up because advance registration is required.

“We wanted to be able to communicate ways people could create a more sustainable environment and healthier environment for the occupants of buildings,” said founding director of the da Vinci School, Mary Ann Greene.

The da Vinci School, which has been a part of the tour for the past three years, is a science-based preschool and kindergarten program that has been in operation since 1987. Five years ago the program moved to its new facility, which is a LEED Gold certified campus. The school also is registered with the United States Green Building Council to with the intent of it being a teaching tool. Complete with wind turbine, solar panels, and a large rainwater collection system, this school is the first of its kind of be dedicated to early childhood education.

The 6th annual DFW Solar Tour is a one-day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3. The tour is free, but make sure you have a list of the different locations so you can plan your visits.
