A month after getting the approval of the Dallas City Council to build a luxury apartment complex at the northeast corner of Northwest Highway and Preston Road, the project has a name and a new investor.

JP Morgan Asset Management has joined Transwestern as an equity partner in the development, called The Laurel, which will consist of four stories and 164 units. Construction could begin next spring.

Even before it’s built, however, The Laurel already has quite an intriguing history that includes plenty of negotiations with neighbors over building height and density, and the fact that its approval came while a task force is still determining a set of guidelines to steer future development near Preston Center.
