Companies Lend Hands to Help Trinity

The Trinity River Conservation Corps joined with corporate volunteers on April 15 to do some spring cleaning of the Trinity River corridor.

Southwest Airlines Co., The Trinity Trust Foundation, and the City of Dallas partnered with the corps to make the second annual Corporate Day of Service a success.

Volunteers from companies such as Alamo Drafthouse, Ebby Halliday Realtors, Omni Dallas Hotel, Wells Fargo, the Lyda Hill Foundation, and Hunton & Williams LLP helped fill three 15-yard dumpsters with trash and debris, and made seed balls for future planting.

If you want to help clean up the Trinity with your family or friends this summer, check out Groundwork Dallas. I heard their Executive Director Peter “Rickman” Payton at a Trinity Trust River Rat event last year. He said they need ALL the help they can get.

Every time the Trinity floods, debris stuck in storm drains flows into the river. That means the organizations trying to keep it clean have to “start over.”

If you see trash on the street or sidewalk, pick it up and dispose of it in a trash can. We are lucky to have a the largest urban hardwood forest in the country. Earth Day is one day a year, but you can do your part every day.
