HP’s Katie Bell pitched a shutout against W.T. White on Thursday.

Highland Park lived up to its billing as the favorite in its playoff opener on Thursday.

The Lady Scots struggled early at the plate but still rolled to a road 5-0 win over W.T. White in the first game of a best-of-three series in the Class 6A Region II bi-district round.

Katie Bell pitched a one-hit shutout for HP to back an offense that broke open a close game with four runs in the sixth inning. Emily Singh and Lauren Jackson had two hits apiece, while Amanda Reenan drove in two runs.

On Saturday, the series shifts to HP, where the Lady Scots will host Game 2 beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a third game, if necessary. The winner of the series will meet either Rockwall or Copperas Cove in the area round next week. Rockwall swept HP last season.
