Speaker Line-up Announced for Annual Mental Health and Education Conference

Timothy P. Shriver, the Chairman of Special Olympics International, which serves over 5.3 million Special Olympics athletes and their families in 170 countries.

The speaker line-up has been finalized for Momentous Institute’s annual Changing the Odds conference.

The conference, which will be held at the Omni Dallas Hotel in September, features two-days of keynote speakers who will explore the topic of belonging and how it relates to communities, families, gender, race, and culture. Attendees will learn innovative science, research, and practices designed to strengthen our sense of belonging.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Timothy P. Shriver, the Chairman of Special Olympics International, which serves over 5.3 million Special Olympics athletes and their families in 170 countries.
  • Fr. Gregory Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang intervention, rehab and re-entry program in the world. Father Boyle tells about the importance of adults’ attention, guidance and unconditional love in preventing youth from joining gangs.
  • Jen Hatmaker, popular blogger, speaker and author, has garnered millions of followers discussing belonging and the value of a trusted and non-judgmental community. She is also the author of New York Times Bestselling books “For the Love” and “Of Mess and Moxie.”
  • David R. Williams, Harvard Professor and one of the top 10 most cited social scientists in the world. His research focuses on understanding the complex ways socioeconomic status, stress, racism, health behaviors and religious involvement can affect health.
  • Rosalind Wiseman, author of “Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and the New Realities of Girl World,” the best-selling book that was the basis for the movie “Mean Girls.” She is also the author of the game-changing book about boys, “Masterminds and Wingmen: Helping Our Boys Cope with Schoolyard Power, Locker-Room Tests, Girlfriends, and the New Rules of Boy World.”
