Out And About: Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick Wow in ‘A Simple Favor’

Have you ever seen a movie trailer and said, “Oh! I want to see that!” Sure you have.

That is exactly what happened what happened to me when I saw a glimpse of a new movie starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. Now, you’re either going to love me or judge me for this next few statements, but c’est la vie. I might have jumped on the bandwagon late in the game, but I was the biggest fan of ‘Gossip Girl‘ and stormed through five seasons over summer just to find out the sixth season was the last. And, ‘Pitch Perfect‘ is in my top 10 movie list.

When I saw that Lively and Kendrick were starring in a movie together, I knew it would be good before I knew what it would be about. Luckily, the plot was just as enticing.

A Simple Favor‘ (Rated R) centers around Stephanie (Kendrick), a smothering mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s (Lively) sudden disappearance from their small chilly Connecticut suburb.

Don’t you just love a female-friendship movie?

This movie has everything that makes for a good watch: There’s this unlikely friendship between two women who are polar opposites – Stephanie, an apologetic widow who has a curse jar, and Emily, an unabashed knock out who never holds back. Then, there is the whole Emily goes missing and is presumed dead thing.

The movie is sly. And it is sweet. And it has an amazing, unexpected ending.

And you don’t have to take my word for it, just ask my guest, the guy sitting next to me, the couple behind me, or the girls a row in front of me – they all said: “that was such a good movie” as the credits rolled.

‘A Simple Favor’ opens Friday, Sept. 14.
