SKULLDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: WHAT DID MACY’S EVER DO TO YOU?
It was a rough week for Macy’s at NorthPark Center. The department store was hit hard by thieves in the post-New Year’s rush. Three different arrests were made for shoplifting in a span of five days: Once on Jan. 1, again on Jan. 5, and a third time on Jan. 6. Perhaps these thieves just love name-brand clothing at more-than-marked-down prices?
It was a rough start to New Year’s Eve for this resident, who called police at 6:30 a.m. after she slipped on spilled coffee and twisted her ankle at the 8000 block of Herb Kelleher Way. Here’s hoping she was able to watch that evening’s fireworks from her couch.
Reported at 1 p.m: criminal mischief. A vehicle the 4000 block of Stanford Avenue was broken into and damaged.
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in the 7000 block of Park Lane was burglarized at 1:45 p.m. A window was broken, the church was ransacked, and unknown items were taken.
A resident reported at 4:50 p.m. that her car – parked at NorthPark Center – had been struck by an irresponsible driver who departed without leaving a note.
Reported at 7:30 a.m.: Burglars broke in and took a safe from Potbelly’s restaurant in the 5000 block of Forest Lane.
A vehicle rear window was damaged as a burglar gained access and removed property at 4:19 p.m. at the 3000 block of Northwest Highway.
Reported at 4:20 p.m.: A burglar broke into a vehicle in the 6000 block of Northwest Highway and stole property.
Police gave a ride (to jail) to a 31-year-old woman found intoxicated at 7:47 p.m. in the parking lot at apartments 4400 block of West University Boulevard.
A woman reported at 11:55 a.m. that her vehicle, parked at a hotel in the 2300 block of Northwest Highway, was broken into.
A man reported at 2:30 p.m. that the fence at his home in the 4000 block of Colgate Avenue had been purposely knocked down in very un-neighborly fashion.
Reported at 12:16 p.m.: an auto thief, using a “cut key,” enter a vehicle in the 12000 block of Montego Plaza and drove away.
A man has been banned from the Tom Thumb in Preston Royal after threatening violence in the store around 1:22 p.m. Police safely removed him.
At 7:34 p.m., fight broke out in the parking lot outside Bartaco at Preston Center where one man hit and spit on the other, who then called 911.
Someone entered Trinity Episcopal Church at the 12000 block of Hillcrest Road at 11:59 p.m., but no altercations were reported.
