It looks like all that waiting for Fire Station 27 to open its bay doors last December was worth it. Especially for Perkins+Will, the global architecture firm behind the design of the building located on the corner of West Northwest Highway and Douglas Avenue.

The American Institute of Architects Dallas named the firm as an Honor Award recipient for the station at the 2016 AIA Dallas Design Awards Oct. 6. The 23,000-square-foot, three-story building is the first multi-story station in Dallas in more than a century.

The project was originally slated to open in 2013, but various reasons caused the project to be delayed two years. For more information on the station, read Preston Hollow People’s December 2015 story.
