Reimagine Communities Symposium
October 3, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
In collaboration with the Urban Institute, Capital One presents the Reimagine Communities symposium featuring innovators from around the country who will share insight on how harnessing technology can empower communities with opportunities. Additionally, the results of a survey measuring the sentiment of how 500 DFW adults feel about the impact technology has made on their lives and community will be released at this event.
These results provide interesting comparisons to a similar survey conducted two years ago and uncovers data to compliment the DFW 2026 study commissioned by Capital One and compiled by the Institute for the Future. The Symposium will focus on three key questions:
How is technology changing the way we work, how we learn and where we live?
What are the implications for technological innovations in these areas for wealth and income inequality?
How can new technologies be harnessed to reduce inequalities, expand opportunity and promote shared prosperity?
Panelists are from the public and private sector and include researchers as well as business and community leaders. Among the symposium’s goals are: building the capacity of nonprofit leaders; providing insight to funders; and equipping civic leaders with tools to create meaningful change.
In 2015, Capital One launched Future Edge, an initiative that pledged $150 million over five years to help prepare more Americans with the skills, tools and resources they need to succeed in an ever-changing digitally-driven economy. As part of this initiative, Future Edge DFW symbolizes Capital One’s commitment to make Dallas-Fort Worth a destination for top talent, spur growth as a world-renowned technology hub, and nurture leaders of tomorrow. Along with the launch of Future Edge DFW, Capital One released a study in partnership with the Institute for the Future (IFTF) entitled “DFW 2026: Igniting Economic Cultural Prosperity in North Texas.” The study reveals early signals and potential disruptions impacting the region such as technology and innovation. To follow this study, a new survey has just been completed with the results being announced at the October 3 Reimagine Communities symposium. The report provides insights that could help prepare DFW to think creatively about the future of North Texas.
