The Covenant School is quickly developing into a dynasty in the world of private-school six-man football.

The Knights won their second consecutive TAPPS state championship on Saturday in dominating fashion, defeating Boerne Geneva School 60-12 in Zephyr.

It was a rematch of last year’s state title game, also won by Covenant, which has advanced to the championship game in each of the past five seasons.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this year’s team and all of the hard work that it took to win a second state title,” said Covenant head coach Brice Helton. “This group of seniors has set a great example for our underclassmen and we hope to continue to build a strong program on and off the field.”

Two members of that senior class led the way for the Knights (13-1). Clark Martin rushed for more than 270 yards and seven touchdowns, while Colby Boozer added 141 yards and two scores.

Covenant was undefeated against private-school opponents this season. The Knights will play two more years at the six-man level before growing enrollment will prompt a transition to 11-man football in 2016.
